The City of Rocky River Safety Forces are monitoring the Rocky River for ice jams and potential flooding. Currently, the river is flowing and not critically rising, winds have been heading north, the snow melt has been gradual and precipitation has diminished. In addition, there are no obstructions where the river meets Lake Erie and the river appears to be flowing. However, currently in the river - there is broken ice that is collecting near the Metro Parks' boat launch at Sweetwater Landing. Since weather conditions may change overnight our Safety Forces will be monitoring the river.
River conditions can change rapidly – before an alert can be issued. If you notice high water, you must make the critical decision to quickly leave your residence. When conditions create a potential for flooding, it is always prudent to have a plan in case evacuation is necessary: safeguard important items of value, pack an overnight bag with phone charger, medications, etc. and make a note to turn off the power before leaving. Again, the current river levels are not breaching the bulkhead – however – there is always a potential for conditions to change quickly, please be prepared.
