Olmsted Township Dispatch
On behalf of the Olmsted Township Board of Trustees, and the Olmsted Township Police and Fire Departments we would like to inform all residents and business owners that effective Monday, December 1, 2014 Cuyahoga Emergency Communications System (CECOMS) initiated dispatching emergency calls for Olmsted Township. This transition enhanced our dispatch services by providing 24/7 Emergency Medical Dispatching, more dispatchers available during major incidents, and state of the art communications equipment. On January 5th, 2015 our police chief and communication transition team determined that the transition process was completed.

It is crucial when asked what city your emergency is in, you provide the correct information. If you are calling from your home or business in Olmsted Township, you must say Olmsted Township. If you say Olmsted Falls, your call will be transferred incorrectly and precious time will be wasted. If you are calling from a land line (house phone) the dispatcher can tell on the screen where you live. If you call from a cell phone then you need to know physically where you are located.

All cellular 9-1-1 calls in Cuyahoga County are answered at CECOMS. The call taker asks what city your emergency is in and then transfers your call to the correct dispatch center. That has not changed. What has changed is that CECOMS is now our dispatch center.

Here is what you really need to know:

Since we share the same zip code as Olmsted Falls you have to state that you are from Olmsted Township to avoid a transfer to the wrong dispatch center.

If you have an alarm system or use a service such as “Life Line” or another type of medical service alerting system then you must make sure they have your residence listed properly as well. If you have concerns, check your address on the Cuyahoga County Auditor Site or call Town Hall during regular business hours at (440) 235-3099 or the Building Department at (440) 235-4225.

If at any time there is confusion as to your location the dispatcher will be able to assist, however, your correct response, Olmsted Township, will ensure that your emergency is handled as quickly and efficiently as possible.
