A recent Ready Notify message from another community regarding their leaf collection was mistakenly received by Rocky River residents and that community’s information was posted to a private, Rocky River social media account. It has caused confusion.
CLARIFICATION: the City of Rocky River will be collecting yard waste bags throughout the year. Also, leaves will be collected – from the tree lawns - until we send messages through this system to alert residents that leaf collection is nearing completion. Last month, the pace of leaf collection was impacted by the weather – wet / cold weather makes the leaf collection slower. Thank you for your patience as wet, frozen leaves challenged our leaf collection. Another Ready Notify message from the City of Rocky River will alert our residents, in advance, to the cessation of the leaf collection. The City appreciates that leaves are kept on the tree lawn for collection by our crews in a safe manner. Efficient collection requires no parking in front of leaf piles – thank you for your cooperation.
The holiday mail-order season is here – bringing extra boxes to us all. Cardboard is recycled by collapsing boxes into large blue bags available at grocery or hardware stores or by placing collapsed boxes into recycling bins at City Hall and at the Service Garage. Our recycling contractor empties the bins at City Hall on Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays and our Service Division attends to the bins on a regular basis during the night shifts. Our recycling company cannot provide additional bins or extra collection services because the bin weights have been too low. The weight has been low because most boxes in the bins are not collapsed and are taking up too much room in the bins – creating overflow situations and limiting our services. Collapsing boxes will increase our paper and cardboard recycling weights. The City earns a modest revenue from this recycling and we save landfill costs which helps manage our refuse costs. Collapsing boxes before recycling may qualify our City Hall location for additional bins and potentially, a higher level of service. Everyone helps when they break down that box! We appreciate your recycling efforts – thank you!
